The program Jointly Selective Collection (Coleta Seletiva Solidária) consists of the donation of recyclable waste generated by bodies and entities from the Federal direct and indirect administration to cooperatives or association of recyclable material collectors, as set forth by the Federal Decree n° 5.940/2006.
This program aims at the generation of income and social inclusion of recyclable material collectors, besides the strengthening of the global debate about sustainable development, reduction of the destination of waste to landfills and dumps and minimization of environmental impacts.
Eletrobras has a permanent Jointly Selective Collection Committee, comprised by volunteer employees from several areas of the company for better spreading the program through all organizational units.
According to the methodology adopted, each collaborator is responsible for the separation of recyclable material in individual collectors (in each work station) and in the collective collectors (strategically located in places such as pantries and near photocopiers). Therefore, participation and awareness about collection of recyclable materials based on the waste the collaborators themselves produce is encouraged.
In compliance with the provision in the Decree, Eletrobras sends on a biannual basis to the Inter-ministry Committee for Social Inclusion of Recyclable Materials Collectors, the evaluation report on the program results, both internally (separation of waste on the source) and regarding the effects in the partner cooperative.
Besides the actions intended to the fulfillment of the Decree, Eletrobras also encourages the conscious awareness in alignment with the waste management policy, grounded on the principles of the 3R´s: REDUCE, REUSE AND RECYCLE, in compliance with the Environmental Agenda in Public Administration of the Ministry of Environment (A3P).
Initially, the Committee chose to give priority to actions aimed at the separation of recyclable materials (RECYCLE). Nowadays, actions are aimed at the performance of campaigns design to reduce the usage of office and pantry materials, focused on the decrease in the use of disposable plastic cups and paper. |
